THEATRE
THEATRE | 16 JAN 2016
À GRANDE E À FRANCESA
artistic consultancy CAROLINE BERGERON

The new season kicks off with a bang with À grande e à francesa, where several companies peacefully invade us with a myriad of small theatre venues. The end result? A big celebration of culture.

For one afternoon and one night, take a magical journey through the universe of pocket-sized theatre shows that will wholly occupy Teatro Viriato, even – and specially – those unexpected places unknown to audiences. This journey is made up of eight individual shows, including two premieres by Companhia A Tarumba and Teatro Mais Pequeno do Mundo respectively. One could also highlight some great french classic object theatre pieces, created by companies founded in the 19th century. And last, but not least, some local artists from the city of Viseu will regale the public with bite-sized artistic experiments.

A one-of-a-kind moment, and an opportunity for all audiences to get acquainted with Teatro Viriato, one small piece at a time. Come and join us as we open for our new season in grand style.

PROGRAMME

LES PUCES SAVANTES
COMPAGNIE LES PETITS MIRACLES

Alfredo Panzani, former cat tamer, set his lions aside in order to create an equally challenging venue: a flea circus. Les Puces Savantes is a good-humoured show, where each itch is good reason to laugh.

ESTE NÃO É O NARIZ DE GÓGOL, MAS PODIA SER…
COMPANHIA A TARUMBA
premiere

The importance of having a nose, of not getting one's nose out of joint, of not sticking one's nose where it does not belong, of being toffee-nosed or just being nosey! A small show with an abundance of noses.

VINGT MINUTES SOUS LES MERS
THÉÂTRE DE CUISINE

A diver risks his live in deep-sea battles involving giant octopuses, mermaids and blood-thirsty sharks' teeth. A micro-object show that will send shivers down your spine.

PULSION SCOPIQUE
ANIMA THÉÂTRE

To see, to be seen and wanting to be seen. This is the eccentric game presented by the Anima Théatre company in Pulsion Scopique. To help narrate this strange adventure, several objects, that wait to attain life and be seen, will be used.

LE GRAND THÉÂTRE MÉCANIQUE
COMPAGNIE DE L'ÉCHELLE

Created in 1900 for the Exposition Universelle held in Paris, Le Grand Théâtre Mécanique recreates an authentic Italian-style theatre in miniature form, complete with 710 seats, usherettes, entertainers and, of course, a concert about to begin.

REFÚGIO
GRAEME PULLEYN | TEATRO MAIS PEQUENO DO MUNDO
premiere

Sometimes a person has to withdraw from the world, enter their cocoon and just let time run by. Away from the noise and humdrum of our everyday, in a place with space to think and to remember that life is as sweet as honey.

ZUL TELECTU - SONIC RUMBLE
JONAS RUNA and VÍTOR RUA

As a means of stimulating their senses, Jonas Runa and Vítor Rua offer the audience a chance to listen to Sonic Rumble, from the Zul Telectu project.

EXPERIÊNCIAS ARTÍSTICAS
by ANA BENTO, FRANCISCA MATA, JOÃO DIAS, LUÍS BELO, MARIANA VELOSO, RAFAELA SANTOS,
RICARDO MEIRELES and ROMULUS NEAGU

Eight local artists explore, for about six days and together with Katy Deville, creator of Théâtre de Cuisine, the universe of object theatre, creating small artistic experiments.
