Sometimes there are machines, apparatuses and systems, so big and complex that it seems impossible to stop them, even when the majority of people might think that we would be better served without them. The truth is that, sometimes, a particle smaller than a speck of dust is enough to make almost any machine in the world grind to a halt. Has this ever happened? Let us imagine that it has. Let us also imagine the silence immediately following that halting. Is it really silence? What other sounds and voices are hiding in this silence of shutdown machines? What languages do they speak, and what exactly do they say?
