José Saramago’s books possess the birthmark of nomadic, itinerant, texts, transcending their own story to enter the story of those who read them – and re-tell them. Writer Afonso Cruz takes “The Biggest Flower in the World” and “The Silence of Water”, two of Saramago’s stories for children, intersecting and reorganizing their plots, while Catarina Câmara fuses word and body, exploring notions of frontier, pleasure and fear, moral and spatial conventions and the aesthetic experience has an ethical compass that guides us through the senses and our own imagination. This show, about the child-person and their desire to assign meaning to the world, was created in 2022, the year celebrating the centenary of José Sarmago’s birth.
