A CONSTRUÇÃO DE UMA IMAGEM

THEATRE-DANCE-SOUND SEMINAR IN MOIMENTA DA BEIRA
COORDINATION LUÍS ANDRÉ SÁ AND NUNO VEIGA ARTISTA ASSOCIADO

MARCH to MAY

It was important for the painter to travel around the country, to affirm the variety of regions and customs of Portugal. In situ, he gathered information, he sketched, he photographed... and then he finished his work in the studio, maintaining a perfect balance between reality and the artistic eye.
Odete Paiva, Director of the Grão Vasco National Museum

In 2021, Teatro Viriato and the Grão Vasco National Museum begin a new project that challenges the children and young people of Moimenta da Beira to explore the museum’s artistic creation and legacy, two of the main axes that have guided this 10-year collaboration.

Based on the temporary exhibition of genre painting titled "A construção de uma imagem" (The construction of an image), on show at the National Museum Grão Vasco from March 16, 2021, and in the company of choreographer and dancer Luís André Sá and sound artist Nuno Veiga, students of the 2nd and 3rd cycles of the School Group of Moimenta da Beira will create a show centred on the study of three of the exhibited works.

Much as the painter who hits the road to discover what he wants to paint, so too will the students discover the Museum and the Theatre as spaces for creation. It is this direct contact with reality and the relationship we establish with places of inspiration — such as a museum or a theatre — that allows us to experience in real time, on our skin and in our bones, the transformation and reflection that art stirs in human beings.

The start of the sessions with students will coincide with the opening of the exhibition.
