Heavily inspired by Mouth from Samuel Beckett’s monologue “Not I” (1972), “O Quê?” is a solo piece for melancholy and sad people. In a time of extreme individualism where no one listens, incommunicableness – a recurrent theme in absurdist works – appears to make more sense than ever.
Throughout our lives, we fail to listen to others. On stage, a desire for an understanding between audience and performer springs forth. Sender and receiver. Both will try to communicate and fail. Only one tells the story, a frenetic body regurgitating past and present, hoping that someone will listen.
